Paradise has rebuilt with more fire hardened new construction homes than anywhere else in the country.
There are also "surviving" homes in town that survived the Camp Fire in 2018. Most of these surviving homes have the advantage of mature landscaping.
The Town of Paradise did offer a program for these homeowners to have upgrades done to bring the surviving homes up to fire safe codes such as getting a new roof, having fire hardened siding installed, gutter guards, ember resistant ventilation, and other features to increase fire safety. Not every home owner took advantage of the program however, so choosing a home that survived will take some further investigating on fire hardened features.

In contrast, new construction homes have been built with the new fire hardened materials such as hardy (concrete) siding, fire sprinklers, ember resistant vents, etc. The Town of Paradise also has Defensible Space requirements meaning nothing combustable can be within 5 feet of the perimeter of the home. (no bushes or shrubs against the house)
New homes in Paradise have at least 5 ft. of metal gates from the house to any wooden fences. Some of these metal gates are quite ornate!
New construction homes in Paradise usually have front landscapting done, with most back yards being left as a clean slate for the new homeowner to create their own backyard.

New construction = Fire hardened materials, need landscaping
Surviving homes = some older materials, most have mature surviving landscapes
